River Trips - trips will start again at Easter 2009 new details available soon

The Wey Navigation was constructed over 350 years ago, and opened in 1653, linking the Thames with Guildford; 111years later, the final section upstream to Godalming was opened. The waterway was, for its time, a 'fast' route for transporting goods from Guildford to London. Today you can enjoy the leisurely pace on the river with a trip on board one of our purpose-built trip boats -the Harry Stevens and the Alfred Leroy. These craft are named after men who had strong associations with the River Wey. Mr Harry Stevens was the last private proprietor of the river and donated it to the National Trust in 1964. Mr Alfred Leroy was one of two bothers, who hired rowing skiffs and punts from boat houses in Guildford and Farncombe, near Godalming.

Our trips cover some or all of the four-mile stretch of the River Wey between Guildford and Godalming, and you can see a variety of wildlife and historic buildings as well as the beauty of the river itself. There are trips for both individuals and booked parties on board The Harry Stevens, while The Alfred Leroy is available for catered trips for groups between 25 and 49.

The Skipper and Crew look forward to welcoming you aboard.

THE HARRY STEVENS

The Harry Stevens is a familiar sight along the River Wey. Open-sided, with roll-down see-through curtains for all-weather protection, 'The Harry' seats up to 60 passengers. We deo occasionally book larger groups for confirmed trips, which can mean less space for other visitors. So if you are travelling far to join us, it is worth phoning ahead to check the likely availability of tickets. If you would like to reserve your seat to be sure of space, please telephone 01483 504494 on the morning of the trip.

Trips start from Guildford Boat House; pay in Reception.

GROUP DINING CRUISES ON BOARD THE ALFRED LEROY FOR 2008

The Alfred Leroy

The Alfred Leroy caters for groups of between 25 and 49 people who can enjoy the scenery of the river and a meal - as well as good company - at lunchtime, in the afternoon or in the evening. There are no public trips on the Alfred Leroy, so you can choose any time (except Monday and Friday daytimes). Trips generally last 1.5 hours, 2 hours or 2.5 hours, depending on the meal you select. Special occasions sometimes mean a longer trip can be negotiated. All evening trips end by 10pm.

Our catering partners, Hector's and Sons have designed menus for all tastes and pockets, and overall prices start from £11.90 per head for a 90 minute trip with a delicious cream tea or traditional ploughman's lunch, to about £32 for a two-and-a-half hour cruise with a three-course meal depending on the menu chosen. An on-board bar offers a modest selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, with table service.

On board, fixed tables and seating are arranged on raised platforms, with a centre access gangway. Regrettably, the craft is not suitable for 'standing' parties as movement is resticted. The front cockpit allows a small number of people outside at a time.

Wherther you want to invite the family for a celebration, arrange an outing for a social club, or host a private lunch for colleagues or clients, the Alfred Leroy is a unique venue on a beautiful river. Your trip takes you through Saint Catherine's Lock as well as some of the best scenery the historic River Wey has to offer, including Guildford's 11th century Castle Keep and the town centre skyline.

Menus - please remember we ask that the whole party selects the same menu, though of course a vegetarian alternative will be made available as appropriate, and special dietary needs can be discussed with the caterers.
