Welcome to Guildford Boat House

People have been boating on the River Wey in Guildford for over a century, and in all that time Guildford Boat House has been a family business. Since 1974 it has been in the capable hands of the Chase family - Ann, Bob and sons Russell and Richard.

Time spent on the river makes for an occasion to remember: hire a rowing boat or canoe; take a river trip; enjoy a holiday or short break on one of our self-drive narrow boats; bring a group of friends for a group trip, perhaps with a meal; or simply watch the world go by and enjoy an ice cream. First, let us tell you a little about the river and its surroudings.

Cox's Mill, River Wey

Guildford is the historic, busy and fascinating county town of Surrey. Its cobbled High Street, castle, cathedral, museum and acclaimed shops are all within walking distance of Guildford Boat House, making it an ideal place to start your experience on the river. Midway between London and Portsmouth, Guildford is also very accessible: 9 miles from the M25, 35 minutes by train from London Waterloo, close to Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and only 80 miles from the Channel Ports and Tunnel.

The River Wey was made navigable in the 17th Century, 100 years before the Canal Age, and is now cared for by the National Trust. Its 20 miles from Godalming in the South to Weybridge, where it joins the River Thames, pass through some of the most beautiful countryside in Surrey. The historic locks and cottages add to the waterway's special character.
